The skin care routine involves three big and simple steps: cleansing, exfoliating and hydration. The second step is often overlooked and many woman do not find it important. The same thing happens with the use of a toner after cleansing the face. This article will discuss the importance of all the steps in your skin care routine and after you read it, perhaps you will make some changes in your daily ritual.
First of all, the cleansing should take place two times every day. One time in the morning, when you wake up, in order to remove the excess sebum, freshen your face and prepare it for the next steps, and second, in the evening, before you go to bed, in order to remove the makeup and all the dirt.
You can choose whatever you like. There are many options. You can choose cleansing milk or a cleansing gel, but the most important thing to remember is that you should choose a cleanser suitable for your skin type. After you cleanse your face, the next logical step, in my opinion at least, is to use a non alcoholic toner. And I say non alcoholic, no matter what your skin type is. Most experts recommend an alcoholic toner for oily or acne prone skin, but I disagree. And I disagree because I have mixed skin and after I used such a toner, my skin became very dry and started exfoliating, which is not a very nice thing. The purpose of the toner is to remove all the leftovers and to balance the ph of your skin. So choose a delicate toner and use it after you cleanse the skin.
The second step in the skin care routine you perform every day is to exfoliate the skin. So they say. I disagree. If you exfoliate your skin very often, you will damage the natural protection and balance of your skin and your skin will recover hard. Moreover, if you have oily or mixed skin and you exfoliate it every day, you will end up with more sebum than necessary. The best thing to do is to exfoliate your skin once or twice a week, in order to remove the dead cells form the surface of the skin and rejuvenate it.
The third and the last daily skin care step is hydration. Hydration should take place every day, no matter what skin type you have. Even dry or sensitive skin needs hydration, even if experts do not recommend products based on water for these two skin types. Oily or mixed skin also need hydration, even if these skin types are more difficult and hydrating creams can give you headaches. This is why I recommend serums or very fluid hydrating gels and creams for oily and acne prone skin types. The best thing you can do is to apply a very hydrating cream during your beauty sleep and remove all the excess sebum and fat in the morning, when your cleanse your face.
